English 229: Introduction to Creative Writing
English 229: Introduction to Creative Writing is the first course in the Creative Writing classes offered at North Dakota State University. It helps introduce you to this world of Creative Writing through three main distinct genres. As well as requiring lots of outside time devoted to writing for your own free projects. Then at the end you were expected to compile it all into a complete Chapbook, a self-published collection of work.

The three main genres focused on are only the tip of the iceberg in creative writing but the ones that most people tend to think of when thinking of Creative Writing. The majority of the class was dedicated to writing different styles of Poems, three out of the four main projects were different style of poems. The fourth project was a fiction story that actually ended up winning me second place in the fiction category of a writing contest, the W-challenge. Throughout the semester you also had to keep a daily journal which could be filled with anything.

I took English 229 my Spring semester of Freshman year at North Dakota State University. It opened my eyes to the wonders of Creative Writing and made me love writing more. My instructor, Ms. Cynthia Nichols, was very passionate about the world of Creative Writing and ran a very free form class, with some guidelines. She helped me discover what it meant to be a Creative Writer.
